A Living Sacrifice
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
Praise and worship is such a powerful truth. In both the Old and New Testaments God has always related to man through sacrifice. The only thing different now is the kind of sacrifice we bring. No longer does God want sacrifices of bulls and goats. He want us to give Him the sacrifice of praise. The Word calls this our reasonable service. If we truly understand how much He has done for us, is it not reasonable to respond with a grateful heart and life? The man at the Gate called Beautiful in Acts 3 responded to his healing by, dancing and leaping and praising God! Yet so many Believer's have received the greatest miracle, the new birth, and have received eternal life but act dead and lifeless around the things of God. Still others in the body of Christ have been filled with the Holy Spirit and speak with other tongues but you'd never know it. Their life doesn't seem to reflect what they have received. Why? It is likely that they have never been taught how to respond to God with a lifestyle of willing, expressive praise!
Another wonderful truth found here about the kind of sacrifice God is looking for is in the description living sacrifice. This is because God wants us to willingly give ourselves to Him in praise. We are not to sacrifice in the sense of being dead and unresponsive. No. This kind of sacrifice is in contrast to the Old Testament slaughtering of animals. The sacrifice God wants is a living one. Our willingness to give our body, our mouth, our hearts. It is a sacrifice of expression. Singing, lifting of the hands, kneeling and bowing before the Lord, dancing, clapping and shouting and many more are how we give ourselves in sacrifice. Our bodies are to be made to praise God enthusiastically. Not like a dead corpse with no emotion, expression or life. This is the kind of sacrifice our God is looking for and the kind we should give. What are you waiting for?
15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
