Peter and the apostles knew that their primary role was to attend to the Word of God and prayer. In order to fill the gap the first deacons were selected. Seven men who had specific attributes. A good reputation and full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom. Now we must understand this was to serve tables! The early church held to high standards that were somewhat deeper than just a willing heart.

We also know that several of these men went on to fulfill ministries. Phillip later on held a revival in Samaria with great power, signs, and wonders. He is later called “the evangelist” in Acts. Stephen became the first Christian martyr for the Lord after being noted as a “man full of faith and the Holy Spirit” (Acts 6:5). It is noted that a third time “full of faith” is mentioned related to Stephen in Acts 6:8: “8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and signs among the people.”.

I have selected these texts to highlight the qualities of character held by these men who served as deacons in the early church. My intent is to bring focus to the reader to see his or her self in these accounts. Deacon simply mean “servant”. Not a title but a calling. One that was/is obeyed from the hearts.

When Paul later on mentions deacon qualification to young Timothy he writes,

10 But let these also first be tested; then let them serve as deacons, being found blameless. (1 Timothy 3:10)

This leads us to understand that they were observed in their calling before recognition. This is in part why Jesus said, “many are called but few chosen” ( Matt. 20:16). Every Christian has a calling. But how do I get on the road to fulfilling that calling? The simple answer is, be faithful. Faithful to God, faithful to read and study the Word, faithful to pray, faithful to Church, faithful to give, faithful to live right, faithful to forgive wrongs, etc.
Even faithful to stick with something until I am released by my authority and continue to do it well.
Many years ago I had a young man show up at Church wearing a suit and tie. A very clean cut nice young man. As soon as I saw him the Lord said to me, “He has come to get into your pulpit.”. At the end of the service he met me at the door with a firm handshake. “How do I get into your program for ministry in this Church?”, he said. I responded, “Be faithful”, as I squeezed his hand back. I never saw him again.

You see, there are many called and anointed people who will never answer their call. They say, “I am called” but without faithfulness they will never go anywhere. It really does take more than the calling, more than the anointing. It takes all of those with faithfulness. Learning to be faithful is a proving ground for your call. It takes effort, exposes character, bad or good habits, laziness, sloppiness or just the temporary excitement of something new. It requires a willingness to stick with it no matter what comes. It does require pain and difficulty at times. It will also require putting forth the effort even when no one else is. I will end with this thought from the apostle Paul,

1 Corinthians 4:2
2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.

Faithfulness has an important part to play in how our calling is fulfilled. Make it a priority in your life today.

If we can grasp the depths of the above verse it can help clear up certain things that happen to us as we sit under the Word of God.

Recently I have been led by the Lord to kick off the new year with ministry about marriage and family. It is a good reminder that God has Principles about how He said marriage should be. It helps us adjust and put into practice healthy tools that give big rewards. “Strong Marriages and Families” is not just a slogan but a central point of vision for CFC. God gave that to us in the beginning of our tenure and we are committed to building on that revelation.

Along with that we all sometimes think of the messages and words that we hear from the pulpit as nice refreshing reminders and miss that it may really be much deeper. When we think of Church we need to make the connection to the Kingdom of God. I have heard it put this way, “the Church is designed to be the visible manifestation of the invisible Kingdom”. That is quite the revelation. That means that God may be giving directives, healing, freeing, feeding, dispensing and equipping through what is coming from the pulpit. I don't mean to say that is the only way God moves or works in the service or in life in general. But in the concept of the kingdom it definitely has a major impact upon life.

I have noticed throughout this teaching on marriage there are things that have stirred up. Marriages have been under attack. Not all, but more than usual. It is important to make a proper connection. When God moves He tends to reach deep into our well and all the settled sediment gets stirred up. The water for a time gets cloudy as God attempts to heal and restore. This is common not just in marriage but in every Word God brings forth. There is a warfare that accompanies the sowing of the seed of His Word. The enemy always comes to try and steal what was sown before it can produce. We usually don't understand that is what is going on. We just seem to get distracted by the trouble not knowing we are under attack. Think about this verse:

Psalms 105:17-19
17 He sent a man before them—
Joseph—who was sold as a slave.
18 They hurt his feet with fetters,
He was laid in irons.
19 Until the time that his word came to pass,
The word of the Lord tested him.

Joseph had a great Word sown over his life and destiny. That Word however came with many trials and tests. Hated, betrayed, put in a pit, sold into slavery, lied on by Potiphar’s wife, thrown into prison and forgotten. He never saw any of this when God first began to speak to him.
Through it all Joseph grew stronger. God wanted to save his family and keep His Word to Abraham, and Joseph was key to that plan. The enemy attacked time and time again to try and get Joseph off track, but Joseph didn't give in. He held firm and God's plan won out.

God's Kingdom isn't just words. It may seem like it at times but don't be fooled. If God called you to a Church He will feed and equip you there. He will work a work in you, your marriage and your family as you sit under the ministry of His Word. Don't be distracted and defeated by the tests that may appear. Just hold fast and stay steady. God is leading you to victory!

1 Thessalonians 2:13
13 For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.

We have at times been rejected, talked about, slandered, had doors slammed in our face, but persecuted? Not really. What we experienced was more like pressure than persecution.

That being said it is wisdom to realize that things may change in our Nation. And if it does how should we prepare?

It might help to know that God’s Word instructs us to “arm ourselves also with the same mind” (1 Peter 4:1) when it comes to the possibilities of suffering for our faith. We have been so good to teach so much about spiritual warfare, but have left out this powerful truth. The possibility of persecution is always on the table for the ChristIan.

This reminds me of when I first became a Christian. I heard all those sermons on the endtimes, the Tribulation, The mark of the beast and the antichrist beheading Christians. Although I don’t remember it being fearful I do remember it being sobering. I was saved with this possibility of how my life might end if I were to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord. While I do not support the use of fear or threats to move people to make decisions, I do support truth. When I was young we could see those things afar off. I think now we can see them much closer.

This is why I am sharing this with you. “Not to scare you but to prepare you”, in the event that things materialize in the way it seems like it’s heading.

In just one week we are already seeing a major change in our nation. The language that is being used from leaders and influencers is cause for alarm. What once was thought impossible is now possible. Religious liberties as we know them are on the chopping block.

What then, how will it affect me and my relationship with Christ? The answer is, it shouldn’t. Just because times change doesn’t mean that the Church should concede. We must draw closer to God, stay filled with the Holy Spirit, dive deeper in the Word and get stronger in our faith. I personally don’t think it is wrong to entertain a “what if” scenario if I am faced with a difficult choice concerning my faith, family or ministry. To “arm myself also with the same mind” is doing just that.

We must remember that Christians from all over the world and at different times have had these same challenges and stayed victorious. Victory for them was not suffering or even losing their life but rather they stayed true to Christ and His will for them.

As a minister and pastor of a flock I am compelled to guide toward the “Oasis of the Desert”, Christ with full understanding of what it may mean to walk the path we are currently walking. There is no better, safer more secure place than in the perfect will of God.

The result for us is that a “quiet and peaceable life” may be possible with “godliness and honesty”. That is not only noble in these times, it is required. We have, in America, embarked upon a dark path. One that has been lived before by nations and peoples of times past. It has come to some at a high cost of life and livelihood but nevertheless, we have failed to remember our past that we might not repeat it. Even so, we are called to pray.

While I do not know exactly what America is facing the new trends toward Socialism are concerning. Our new incoming president has ideas that are not compatible with Christianity and the Bible. There is a call to “pray for his success” but that is a difficult thing to do for the Bible believing Christian. I for one cannot agree with his success to accomplish destructive things to our American way of life or to our Christian liberty. A better way is to understand our role as put forth in 2 Thessalonians 2:6,

2 Thessalonians 2:6-7 (NKJV)
6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.

I believe we should pray that God would work to restrain the agenda that is opposed to Him. He reveals His Church is appointed and anointed to do just that. Our presence in the earth and our actions accomplish just that. When we pray we are sowing toward the manifestation of God at work. The early Church did (Acts 2, Acts 4 and Acts 12 are great examples) and they saw God respond in power! When God responded He shook the Temple, His people, the crowd, the building, prison doors came open, chains fell off and ministry continued. In every one of these examples there was an opposing force in government and its leaders. God became glorified in the eyes of all! Can you understand what I am saying? More of God results in less influence and control of the enemy. Consider this passage as we end this discussion.

Psalms 68:1-11 (NKJV)
To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David. A Song.
1 Let God arise,
Let His enemies be scattered;
Let those also who hate Him flee before Him.
2 As smoke is driven away,
So drive them away;
As wax melts before the fire,
So let the wicked perish at the presence of God.
3 But let the righteous be glad;
Let them rejoice before God;
Yes, let them rejoice exceedingly.
4 Sing to God, sing praises to His name;
Extol Him who rides on the clouds,
By His name YAH,
And rejoice before Him.
5 A father of the fatherless, a defender of widows,
Is God in His holy habitation.
6 God sets the solitary in families;
He brings out those who are bound into prosperity;
But the rebellious dwell in a dry land.
7 O God, when You went out before Your people,
When You marched through the wilderness,
Selah
8 The earth shook;
The heavens also dropped rain at the presence of God;
Sinai itself was moved at the presence of God, the God of Israel.
9 You, O God, sent a plentiful rain,
Whereby You confirmed Your inheritance,
When it was weary.
10 Your congregation dwelt in it;
You, O God, provided from Your goodness for the poor.
11 The Lord gave the word;
Great was the company of those who proclaimed it:

It seems very clear. Our role is to pray, praise, rejoice and sing our way through until God shows up! And when He does things change. Darkness and evil run for cover and righteousness prevails!

While I cannot support the new president-elect because of his policies, positions and world view, I will pray for him to have a God encounter and be restrained in his current plan and path. A “road to Damascus” encounter with a Jesus can make all the difference to the Church and the World.

In fact, we often deal with this one. After a time, such lessons bring an incredible amount of wisdom.

Absalom was king David’s son. A first born son. This automatically places Absalom as an “heir apparent” to the throne. His name literally means “father of peace” probably prophetically speaking of his future potential. The scriptures tell us that in all Israel there was no one as praised as Absalom for his good looks, for from head to toe there was no blemish on him (2 Sam. 14:25). His hair was so thick and full that it weighed over 8 lbs when he cut it, which was another indication of his destiny in the royal family. But the story of Absalom did not end well.

Absalom had a sister named Tamar. Her half brother Amnon raped her and because these were the King’s kids, David did nothing to punish Amnon at least in the eyes of Absalom. He felt that justice had not been served so he set a trap and murdered Amnon. Once again, this being David’s children, the king only banished Absalom instead of executing him for capital murder as the Law demanded.

But after a time Absalom returned to Israel. He then began to sit in the gate and talk with people who were there with a quarrel or legal case they wanted the king to help with. Absalom told the men that if he were the king he would bring the justice they sought. It was in this way Absalom began to steal the hearts of the men of Israel away from his father David and then led a rebellion against the king. The rebellion was so serious that David had to flee Jerusalem and go on the run. One can appreciate how David must have been equipped for this after all those years of running from the mad king Saul. All that experience must have come in handy. The difference was this was his own son. His firstborn. The one he had mercy on by not executing him for a capital crime. How terrible and tragic this story is.

You see, many times we talk about the spirit of Jezebel at work in the church but not really the spirit that worked through Absalom. Jezebel’s story was and is about “control”. Absalom’s however is about “justice”. He felt slighted. He believed his father did not adequately defend his sister Tamar. What about her? All this led him to work the people until he won their hearts away from loyalty to the king. This led to an attempted coup which looked successful for a short period of time.

Pastor’s deal with this also. Someone feels that the pastor is not adequately taking care of those that are hurting or have been wronged by someone else within the church. Then Absalom stirs things up in the name of justice and righteousness and the coup starts. Absalom’s feel they are the ones called to defend the weak against the evil of a closed eyed apathetic pastor. Way too many fall for this scheme of the devil. It all looks so right but it is terribly wrong. During these times people tend to forget that pastors and leaders cannot open their mouths and defend themselves. We must rely on the Lord who called us to defend and on our manner of life before the people. We go on leading those who still follow knowing Absalom will be caught in his own hair at some point.

I often wonder how Absalom’s story would have been written had he not fallen into the trap of seeking justice in such an ungodly way. Maybe he would have gone down as a great story of God’s goodness. Nevertheless, we can ourselves become aware of such tests that come our way. Many have fallen already but that does not mean we have too.

Most, if not all of us have been touched by it in some way. And I’ll bet that it was not a good experience. The Bible has offense as one of its main topics for a reason. It is in our best interest to learn what to do with it and how to avoid it. Drama is offense that has been allowed to grow into action. The advice and council here is to not let it develop. When it comes (and Jesus said it will come) we must stop it before it starts moving to the next level. That level is strife.

Strife is where battle lines are drawn and armies are gathered up on sides. The need to prove who is right begins to consume those involved and war ensues. That need to be proven right is so often the fuel of drama. When Jesus was wronged he kept quiet and trusted His Father, the Righteous Judge (1 Peter 2:23). Gossip and talking behind the backs of others is often the politics of strife. Talking about the sins, faults and failures of others is never okay. Love covers. Gossip uncovers. The damage left behind usually lasts for years and shapes future relationships. If allowed, drama (strife) becomes like a drug. There are many addicts of drama today. In the world and sadly in the Church. We are actually conditioned by almost every form of entertainment to bend toward drama. Reality shows, movies and News outlets use drama as the hook. Once received, drama can become a sick need. Like the witchcraft it is, drama gains control over those given to it. Then along with the need to feed on it, it becomes a motivation and lifestyle for those given to it. Christians should stay clear of drama.

The Bible says to avoid it. Don’t allow it. Stop it before it starts. The answer is to drop the issue and walk away before it goes any further.

I used terms that are common to describe a message of excess. However, I have been corrected. The Bible uses a word translated “abounded” to explain this grace as an answer to the abounding sin. “ hyperperisseuō“ is defined as to super-abound: — abound much more, exceeding. It is an answer to abounding sin which Paul used another Greek Word to describe. My take on why Paul has done this was to separate the abounding sin from the abounding grace and emphasize much more. You see, the real grace is an empowerment over sin, not a license to indulge in the flesh. This is the real biblical message of grace. God is now involved personally and we are under grace (Romans 6:14) and sin’s dominion has been taken away. It’s not that we can’t sin but we don’t have to! We don’t have to obey sin in the flesh but we are now in a position to obey God’s Spirit of grace. Look at this passage.

Titus 2:11-12 (NKJV Strong's)
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,

The grace of God does not encourage indulgence in the flesh but empowers to live as we should. So any teaching or message that has grace as a license is the wrong message.

So then, am I for “extreme grace”? Absolutely! God has given us grace abundant and we are on the marvelous journey of grace to grace!

A time of outreach for those less fortunate and most of all to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, God’s greatest gift that manifested His love for all humanity. I just love the announcement the angels made that day to the shepherds guarding their flocks in the field, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!” (Luke 2:14). I pray we can all see how much we have been given because heaven has favored us in such a way. Jesus came to give us peace because He made peace with God through His sacrifice. This announcement begins the greatest chapter in all humanity. God’s Lamb was now born who was to take away the sins of the world. What a story! As Believers we should rehearse this message over and again each year to our family and friends. If this became the focus of Christmas (which means gathering around Christ) how could it help us with the hustle and bustle, the stress and struggle many of us have this time of the year? I think much of the Scripture that says, “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You” (Isaiah 26:3). My simple exhortation for you is to keep Christ in your Christmas this year and every year. Make the season one of worship and adoration of the One Who came to die for you. The gift from above that keeps on giving. Jesus really is the reason for the Season.

Tammie and I and all our Family want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas this year! Each and every one of our CFC families are precious to us. It is truly a labor of love we have in ministering to you as your pastors. You are in our hearts and prayers constantly and it is our desire that you find God’s best in each and everything you do. I believe our future is bright. Our path is clear. Our possibilities are endless. We are a kingdom people in pursuit of His Presence and we shall not rest until all is swallowed up in Him. God has a plan for us that the enemy has tried repeatedly to thwart but God is faithful. And so are you. Each time we gather let us pursue Him until we capture Him. As we look ahead to 2020 dare to dream bigger and reach higher. Let’s believe for our greatest year yet. At the close of each year I make this confession, 2019 has been the greatest year of my life, spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, financially, relationally and ministerially! And I declare 2020 will be an even greater year of my life, spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, financially, relationally, and ministerially in Jesus name AMEN!

It has always proved to be true each and every year since I have been a Spirit filled Believer. And I have no reason to doubt it now. It did not always look like it throughout the year but yet it always has ending with greater blessing than it began. Praise God for His faithfulness! Dare to make this confession and declaration with me and lets embrace 2020 with faith and hope. Love you all!

Love,
Pastors Ben and Tammie Aguirre

The tempter said, “ if you are the son of God...(Matt. 4:3)”. It was the clever strategy to cast doubt concerning Identity! You see, if the devil can get you to doubt who you are, he can then get his hands on everything else. It is when we forget who we are that we begin to act like something else. Because we will gravitate toward what we think will give us security. Our identity in Christ, knowing who we are, is central to our life. When you know where you came from you can then have an idea about where you are going. Knowing you are a child of God with God living in you gives you access to all your resources to life victoriously. The Spirit whispered this to me a few days ago, I Am not just a resource in your life, I AM THE SOURCE OF YOUR LIFE.”

Every child of God has the Spirit crying out in him ABBA Father. It resists any other spirit that is trying to be your father and subsequently all the fears and insecurities that are born our of that relationship. You can walk in peace. You can be secure! You can know who you are!

This wording has such significant meaning for the Believer. Not enough could be stated to reveal the weight of what God’s Word is conveying. Knowing who you are in Christ Jesus is paramount. It will enable the Christian to follow with right objectives and strive to discover more that is available in our relationship with God.

“The Spirit of Adoption” had a common understanding in Paul’s day. It was the time for a man to be recognized as fully mature and released as a full partner with his father in whatever business or trade the family had. The son could now act in his father’s name with his full authority. There was no fear the son would act inappropriately because he had his father’s heart and vision for the family business. This event was with ceremony and celebration. A good example can be seen in the Life if Jesus during his baptism in the River Jordan.

Matthew 3:16-17 (NKJV Strong's)
16 When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. 17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

The Father God announced to everyone present that His Son, Jesus, was now in the ministry of His Father, doing His Father’s will.

John 6:38 (NKJV Strong's)
38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.

Everyone present that day was familiar with the adoption ceremony and when they heard the voice from heaven speaking those familiar words over Jesus they knew exactly what was happening.

You and I as God’s children are to be learning how to cooperate with God’s Holy Spirit to bring us to maturity. Now that we have been baptized in the Holy Spirit we need to become familiar with Him in how he leads so we can grow up to full maturity. This is what is really meant when scripture says:

Romans 8:14 (NKJV Strong's)
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

To be “led” is to be a pupil or student. “Sons” is the mature huios sons that have come to the adoption place. This is why it is vital to be submissive to authority and learn the vision of leadership. It is their task to mature the Saints for the work of the ministry. The atmosphere of accountability helps to train and develops the immature into the mature that God can use like He pleases. Are you in a teachable spirit? Can you be taught and mentored? Have you caught the vision of your leader? If you are you are on the road to becoming mature and usable to the Master of the house like He destined you to be.

It is very easy today to try and find our sustenance in about everything imaginable. And yet we are more dissatisfied and empty than ever. The Lord graciously provides what we need to eat for our nourishment spiritually each day. In fact, Jesus taught us to pray, “give us this day our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). Jesus Himself said that He was the bread of life, so we have plenty from His table to satisfy our every need.

This passage has so many components to it so I just want to focus on one, which is, deliverance from oppression. Look at this verse.

Acts 10:38 (NKJV Strong's)
38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Oppression is something pressing and holding us down or back. Since this passage is the story of the Gentile woman’s daughter being vexed with demons we can safely assume this is at least in part, what Jesus provides for His children. Are you a child of God? Are you under unusual pressure feeling held down by life’s circumstances? Are you being tormented in any way with fear, depression, anxiety or stress? Is your health or finances under attack? The answer will be found in your food. Jesus gave instructions concerning communion when He gave thanks, broke the bread and declared, “take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you;” (1 Cor. 11:24).

Believer, His table is prepared and spread. Come and dine for the Master has called. It’s your bread. He gives it freely to eat. So I ask once more, what are you eating?

In fact, everyone is a leader in some capacity for someone is always watching you. With this in mind we should take up in our thinking some simple truths that will help us to be faithful in our role.

Since we are catching the attention of someone in our leading we should observe ourselves in how we are doing it. Poor leadership teaches poor habits to others. When leading it is wisdom to know that right or wrong I will lead. Even when I am out of touch, slacking off, distant, disgruntled and such. This is expressed all the time in parenting. We often don't realize how much our children see and hear and learn until it's too late. We have set the course by our actions and words. I have personally seen many times Christian parents who didn't make faithfulness to Church a priority beg for prayer when their kids became teenagers or even adults asking for God to help them come back to God. It's sad but real.

This plays out in Church life as well. Someone has a position but after a while they begin to slack off or take up a bad attitude. They don't know others are watching and soon begin to do the same. Eventually when correction comes )and it always does) most get mad and leave hurt and offended often taking others with them. They will blame the pastor or the Church but in truth the issue was with them. They did not remember the “diligence” concerning their leadership.

Once realized we then begin to consider how our decisions affect others and make adjustments. This is also part of promotion. The Lord can then lead us into relevance. Our lives take a better “aim” in the purpose of the Lord.
